Best Facial Procedures for Winter

At Gulf Coast Facial Plastics, we are committed to helping you look and feel your best. We have developed a list of procedures designed to keep your skin healthy and vibrant during this cooler season.

FAT TRANSFERS

When you are looking for a safe and popular option for a facial rejuvenation, consider fat transfers. This procedure uses fat harvested from your own body to fill in fine lines and wrinkles, plump thinning lips, or to rejuvenate aging hands. Because the fat is from your own body, adverse reactions are minimal.

SKIN RESURFACING

Here on the Gulf Coast of Florida, harsh summer UV rays can harm your skin. So during the winter is the optimal time to help your skin recover from that damage. The procedure can drastically improve the look of your skin, revealing younger, healthier skin that’s hidden underneath the sun damage, wrinkles, and acne scars. For the most natural-looking results, stay out of the sun during the post-operative recovery.

FACELIFT

Dr. Daniel Daube is known for his “Gold Standard” in facelifts. If you’re looking for dramatic results to correct wrinkles, sagging skin, or loss of facial definition, this may be the treatment option for you. Since this surgery requires more downtime, the fall/winter months are usually the best option.

BELLAFILL

Although we have a lot of varied options for fillers, this particular choice has one amazing advantage… it lasts for five (5) years! This innovative injectable softens facial wrinkles, smile lines, and acne scars in an instant. With its unique collagen formula, the results are natural, immediate, and long-lasting.

If you are interested in trying any of these facial options to perk you up during the winter doldrums, call us today for a consultation. Call our Cosmetic Coordinator, Kim O’Neal Guy at extension 130.

Tips for Keeping Skin Healthy in Winter

Now that Bay County has hit some cooler temperatures, we’d like you to be aware that your skin may dry out, or even crack, from the dry air the winter season brings. At Gulf Coast Facial Plastics, Dr. Daniel Daube and his team have developed several tips to help you keep your skin healthy during the colder months.

1. Take Shorter Showers!

We know that sounds so simple and it is! When the weather turns cooler, it is ever so tempting to take a nice, long shower, but cutting down the time you spend showering is actually better for your skin. Ideally, you should not shower more than ten minutes using warm water. While a hot shower may be relaxing, many people use water temperatures that are way too high. Showers that are too hot can dry out the oils in your skin. If your skin is red when you step out of the shower, it’s time to adjust the temperature of the water to a warmer setting.

2. Moisturize… Moisturize… Moisturize!

During the winter months, your skin tends to dry out from a colder environment when we use more dry heat in our home and cars. For the best possible results, use lotion directly after showering, which will help trap in moisture quickly. In addition, remember to moisturize your hands frequently as well, preferably after each washing.

3. Use Sunscreen.

During the winter, most people forget about the need for sunscreen, but it’s just as important in the cooler months. Rays from the sun are always a viable threat to the health, and appearance, of your skin. In addition, bright reflections on winter days can actually magnify the sun’s rays, increasing the risk of sun damage. Get in the habit of using products that contain sunscreen every day, regardless of the season. Be sure to contact our aesthetician to learn about the specially-formulated products we carry that include sunscreen.

4. Eat Well and Stay Hydrated.

Did you know that not following a proper diet and staying hydrated can cause your skin to dry out, whether in the summer or winter? Make sure to eat foods that are rich in Omega-3 and Omega-6 fatty acids. It is also extremely important to drink enough water throughout the day.

5. Switch Out Your Skincare Products.

During the winter, you need to use cream-based cleansers that will help your face stay both clean as well as moisturized. Avoid products that contain alcohol, since these are more likely to dry out your face and body. Don’t forget to moisturize your face and lips at night as well.

These tips may seem so elementary, but we constantly see skin issues arise from people not following these simple steps. The winter can be harsh to your skin, so come to our Medical Spa where we’ll show you the most current in skincare routines that will keep your skin healthy year-round.

The Best Facial Procedures for the Holidays

With the hustle and bustle of the holidays, it’s a great time to treat yourself to a gift, or more than one, that will make you feel and look better in time for all the festivities.

At Gulf Coast Facial Plastics, we have several facial procedures we recommend.

One of the most popular and time-efficient facial beauty treatments is Botox® that works by freezing your facial muscles to help smooth out fine lines and wrinkles. The recovery time for Botox® is incredibly quick and there is no downtime.

Although Botox® is one of the most well-known injectable procedures; it isn’t the only cosmetic solution. Dysport® and Newtox relax the muscles in the face to soften the signs of aging. These
products are also used for those pesky little lines between your eyebrows or across your forehead. Crows Feet can also be greatly minimized. All three of these products do similar things, but the
difference is in the areas of the face treated… and… results may be seen sooner than later.

Fillers are also an option for a fresher holiday look. We are proud to carry several options: Juvederm®, Restylane®, and Bellafill®.

Juvederm® works immediately to smooth out lines and wrinkles providing a more youthful appearance.

Restylane® also works immediately and is used for the creases that develop from the outer tips of the nostril to the corners of the mouth as well as the marionette lines that form just under the corners of the lips. Both Restylane® and Juvederm® smooth out the appearance of your face.

Bellafill® corrects smile lines and your youthful appearance can last up to five years. It is especially effective in treating acne scars.

Gulf Coast Facial Plastics also has “The SECRET®” to aging gracefully and gradually with our Micro-Needling procedure. Performed on all skin types, this process firms the skin, reduces pore size and wrinkles while revitalizing the skin.

And don’t forget our wide variety of chemical peels. Two we highly recommend at this time of year is the ZO® Stimulator Peel or the PCA Skin® Ultra Peel. These are perfect “perk me ups” for the stress of the holidays.

Dr. Daniel Daube, and the staff at Gulf Coast Facial Plastics, wishes you the happiest of holiday seasons. Call us today to secure your appointment for a more “glowing” appearance… and… a stress-free time to pamper yourself!

3 TIPS for MAINTAINING YOUR FACIAL PLASTIC SURGERY RESULTS

Now that you’ve made the decision to undergo facial plastic surgery, you will want to make certain your results last as long as possible. The key to maintaining that youthful glow is taking proper care of your skin so you feel just as good about your face years from now as you do shortly after you’ve healed. Here are some practical tips for maintaining the best results:

#1 – Follow all the post-operative instructions from your physician

When you have any facial plastic procedures done at Gulf Coast Facial Plastics, Dr. Daniel Daube provides you with detailed instructions for post-operative care. No matter how well you may be healing, do not ignore any of the instructions and follow them carefully. These directions are designed to help you heal and recover in the best way possible, and in the shortest amount of time. It is important to understand it will take time for your body to heal and for the true results to begin to appear.

Before you leave the office, make sure you completely understand what is required of you to achieve the best outcome. Since you will have been under anesthesia, the person who will be driving you home should also listen to the post-operative instructions; however, you will be given a print-out of the verbal instructions. Keep them handy until you are completely recovered. If someone else will be helping care for you after your procedure, be sure they are fully aware of what is required as well. Do not hesitate to ask questions if you are not completely clear about any of the steps as outlined. Our team will be more than happy to explain each step until you are completely sure of what you need to do.

#2 – Avoid Excessive Sun Exposure

Too much sun causes damage to the skin, including dryness and wrinkling, but it is especially important following facial plastic surgery to avoid sun exposure. You certainly do not want to counteract your surgical results by adding harmful sun exposure. As a matter of fact, we always counsel women to protect their skin by wearing protective hats and using SPF products throughout their lives.

#3 – Keep your follow-up appointments

Post-surgery, more than one follow-up appointment is often needed, no matter how good you may look or feel. Follow Dr. Daube’s recommendations and keep these appointments in order for him to assess how your face is healing. He will determine how you are progressing in order for you to achieve optimum results.

If you have any concerns during the healing process, contact us as soon as possible. Do not take matters into your own hands. If you think something is not quite right following your facial plastics procedure, it is important that you act immediately. You know your body better than anyone else, so pay attention to physical signs in order to avoid complications. No issue is too small to be addressed, and a simple phone call may help alleviate any worries you may have.

If you are just beginning to consider facial plastic surgery and would like to schedule a consult, contact Gulf Coast Facial Plastics today!

WHAT to EXPECT from YOUR FACELIFT

A facelift, also known as a Rhytidectomy, is a common type of anti-aging facial plastic surgery requested by both men and women. This procedure may help alleviate creases around the nose and mouth; tighten loose skin along the jawline; remove excess fat in the neck area; and correct any areas of the face that may not seem to be symmetrical.

Why might I need a Facelift?

As your skin matures, it begins to thin. Other factors, like sun damage, smoking, stress, heredity, and loss of facial fat take their toll on your appearance. A facelift is recommended for people who had advanced signs of aging that cannot be corrected with dermal fillers and other less invasive procedures, such as an endoscopic brow lift or eyelid surgery, also known as Blepharoplasty. A facelift can help reduce the overall signs of aging and can restore you to a more youthful, natural look.

What can you expect during a Facelift?

To make your facelift look as natural as possible, Dr. Daniel Daube uses “The Gold Standard” of facelifts, which means there are no shortcuts to the work he does. Dr. Daube is very careful to make the incisions needed where the scars are hidden post-surgery. Your skin will be pulled taut, and the underlying muscles secured to help contour your face and restore it to a more youthful, natural shape.

How long will it take to recover from a facelift?

After a facelift, to promote proper healing, your head will be wrapped in a compression bandage. Healing from such extensive surgery may take several weeks or months, but this timeline varies by patient. Initially, there will be some bruising and swelling, but these conditions will gradually diminish and are normal side effects of a facelift. However, if you believe your symptoms are excessive or think there may be a post-operative problem, contact us immediately.

In order to maximize your surgery results, it is important to keep your follow-up appointments and follow any after-care instructions Dr. Daube gives you.

Nothing can stop the aging process; however, a facelift can keep you looking younger longer. If you are interested in booking a consult with Dr. Daube to discuss your facelift options, contact Gulf Coast Facial Plastics today!

Tips for Keeping Your Skin Healthy in Winter

While you may be ready for the cooler temperatures, your skin can dry out and even crack from the dry air that the winter season brings. Luckily, there are steps that you can take to keep your skin healthy during the colder months. Here are our top tips to keep your skin healthy this winter:

Take Shorter Showers

While the cold weather can make you want to take a nice warm shower, cutting down the time you spend showering is actually better for your skin. A hot shower can be relaxing, however, many people use water that is way too hot. Long, hot showers can dry out the oils of your skin. If your skin is red after you step out of the shower, it’s time to turn the temperature down. Ideally, your shower should be under ten minutes and should use warm, not hot, water.

Moisturize, Moisturize, Moisturize

Your skin needs moisture, especially in the wintertime when it is naturally more prone to drying out. For the best possible results, use lotion directly after showering. This will help to trap in moisture as quickly as possible. Remember to moisturize your hands frequently as well, preferably after each time you wash them.

Use Sunscreen

Although sun damage is likely the last thing you are worried about during the winter, it is still a very viable threat to the health of your skin. The bright reflections of winter days can magnify the sun’s rays and increase your risk of sun damage. It is important to use products that contain sunscreen every day, regardless of the season.

Eat Well and Stay Hydrated

Your skin will be susceptible to drying out with the winter weather, and this can be made worse by your diet and hydration. Make sure that you are eating foods that are rich in omega-3 and omega- 6 fatty acids. It is also important to drink enough water throughout the day.

Switch Out Your Skin Care Products

Pay close attention to the products that you are using in the winter. Cream-based cleansers will help your face stay both clean and moisturized. Avoid products that contain alcohol because they are more likely to dry out your face. Make sure you are moisturizing your face and lips at night.

The winter can be harsh, especially when it comes to the overall health of your skin. Follow these tips to help keep your skin healthy all winter long and come see us at Gulf Coast Facial Plastics to learn more about the skin care procedures that we offer.

Is Kybella® Right for You?

Are you troubled by a double chin that diet and exercise will not eliminate? Do you want your face to look firmer and lifted without surgery? If you are struggling with these issues, you may be a good candidate for Kybella®. Kybella® is a nonsurgical treatment that can give you a smooth, youthful jawline.

What is Kybella®?

Kybella® is the only FDA-approved medication that is used to dissolve fat underneath the chin. Known as submental fullness, the condition is not necessarily indicative of a person’s health status or fitness level. Having excess fat in the upper neck area is most commonly caused by genetics.

The active ingredient in Kybella® is synthetic deoxycholic acid. Deoxycholic acid is a substance that occurs naturally in the body. Your body uses it to break down fat deposits. When injected into the fat under the chin, this acid helps to break up the fat and reduce fullness under the chin. It also destroys these cells so they can’t regrow.

What are the benefits of Kybella®?

Benefits of Kybella® include:

  • Noticeable improvement almost immediately
  • Results may be permanent
  • Has little downtime and requires no incisions
  • FDA-approved
  • Works where diet and exercise have failed

What is involved in receiving Kybella®?

The Kybella® injection is done using a long, slender needle. You won’t experience any pain during the treatment except maybe at the spot of the incision, like any other shot. You’ll start to see dramatic improvement after just two treatments. Most people achieve the results they want in about six treatments.

If you’re interested in finding out more about Kybella®, talk to us at Gulf Coast Facial Plastics. We’ll determine whether Kybella® is right for you.

The Best Laser Procedures to Complete During Fall

Fall can be one of the best times of the year to complete cosmetic laser treatments. Most laser treatments require you to stay out of the sun as you recover, making the cooler months an ideal time to explore laser treatment options. Here are some of the best laser procedures to consider during the fall:

Laser Hair Removal

Unwanted body hair is something that plagues many people. Laser hair removal has become a popular solution to get rid of this hair. This technology damages your follicles in the area where you want hair removed, making it hard/impossible for the hair to grow back. After this procedure, you are required to avoid sunlight on the treated area.

Laser Tattoo Removal

Regardless of the reason for wanting to remove a tattoo, the team of medical professionals at Gulf Coast Facial Plastics is here to help. Removing a tattoo with laser energy works by administering a specific wavelength of intense light into your skin. The light is only absorbed by the tattoo pigments, and your skin remains unharmed. The light energy breaks apart the pigments, which are then absorbed by your body and eliminated. After each treatment, we encourage you to take extra precautions to protect the treated skin from sunlight, since the area will be much more sensitive to the damaging effects of the sun.

CO2 Laser

CO2 laser treatment can be used to help treat deep wrinkles and reverse things like scarring and sun damage. The CO2 laser uses pulsed beams of light to remove skin tissue in columns, which is known as a fractionated method that leaves the skin, around each column, intact to aid in healing. Common side effects include swelling in the treated area along with redness and irritation similar to that of sunburn. After the procedure, you can return to normal activities within two days. Our staff will advise you to stay out of the sun and make sure to wear sunscreen, daily, for several weeks during the healing process.

Laser skin treatments can yield fast and dramatic results. Many of these treatments require patients to avoid sunlight, which makes them excellent procedures to consider during the cooler, fall months. If you are interested in exploring laser skin care options, contact us today and together we can evaluate which treatment is right for you!

Benefits of Juvéderm®

Juvéderm® is one of the most popular types of injectable fillers to immediately to smooth out wrinkles, sagging, and fine lines, resulting in a more youthful appearance. Below are a few benefits of Juvéderm®.

Smooth and Plumping

Juvéderm® is a gel that can be used to both smooth out wrinkles and creases in the face as well as add volume to other areas. Wrinkle lines, crows feet, and finer lines around the mouth and eyes can all be eliminated with Juvéderm®. In addition, it can be injected into your lips to give them a thicker, fuller look.

Long Lasting

One of the great things about Juvéderm® is that it is a long-lasting treatment. It is usually absorbed in six to nine months. Depending on the treatment, the injections can last up to a year. The results are almost instant as well; you will likely see an improvement to your skin/lips within just a few hours.

Hyaluronic Acid

The base of Juvéderm® is hyaluronic acid. This substance is found naturally in the human body. One of its main functions is helping to stimulate the production of connective tissue. Connective tissue, also known as collagen, and can help maintain the young and youthful appearance of the face. As you grow older and your body naturally begins to produce less collagen, your face can begin to sag and wrinkle. Juvéderm® helps to replenish the collagen and the overall appearance of the site in which it is injected. Because it is mainly composed of a compound made by the human body, it is generally thought of as safe and one of the top choices of dermal fillers for most doctors.

Minimal Downtime

Recovery time after Juvéderm® is minimal. Following your procedure, it is important to avoid heavy and strenuous activity, sun exposure, and alcohol consumption. In just a few days, you can go back to your normal schedule and routine.

If you are looking to decrease smile lines and facial wrinkles with Juvéderm®, contact us today to schedule a consultation!
