What is a Brow Lift?

A brow lift or a forehead lift is a cosmetic surgical procedure that improves your forehead’s appearance, the area around the eyes, and the brows. In this procedure, it involves raising the soft tissue and skin of the brow and forehead. A brow lift is the most common endoscopic procedure that most cosmetic surgeons do. At times, it is accompanied by eyelid surgery, facelifts and some skin surfacing techniques.

Purpose of Brow Lift

The purpose of a brow lift is to change the position of sagging eyebrows and eliminate the tired or angry look you might have. This changes how you look completely and makes you have a more youthful appearance. Brow lifts also remove wrinkle lines that appear across your forehead, between your eyes and on the bridge of your nose.

Types of Brow Lifts

  • Endoscopic forehead rejuvenation: A surgeon makes incisions behind the hairline, and an endoscope is inserted to view the underlying tissues and muscles. From one of the incisions, another instrument is inserted to lift your forehead tissues and hold them in place using screws or sutures. Then the incisions are closed using small clips or stitches.
  • Hairline brow lifts: A plastic surgeon makes an incision between the beginning of your hairline and the top of your forehead. The surgeon takes out a small number of tissues and skin from your forehead instead of your scalp. This technique is beneficial for those who want their horizontal creases to be less pronounced. It is done to help patients with high receding hairline. Depending on your healing, you might have a scar along your hairline.
  • Coronal brow lift: Your surgeon makes incisions across the top of your head behind your hairline, from ear to ear. They then proceed to lift your forehead to its new position by overlapping the scalp in front of the incisions to that of the back. The overlapping scalp is taken out, and the back scalp is put together. People with thinning hair or receding hairlines are not advised to have this procedure done.

After-care Instructions

Once the surgery is complete, your forehead is likely to be wrapped loosely or taped to minimize swelling. For the first few days, apply a cold compress on your forehead to reduce swelling and do not expose your incisions to any extreme pressure. When resting, keep your head elevated and take pain medication as instructed by your doctor.

You can notice the change almost immediately after your lift. The swelling will reduce over time, and the incision lines will disappear. Keep in mind that the results aren’t permanent and your skin might droop again. If you have questions about brow lifts, contact the trusted professionals at Gulf Coast Facial Plastics & ENT Center!
